The reason that you'll never get a straight answer as to why we "need" more diversity among programmers is that the real answer is embarrassing. Those who have failed to compete are embarrassed by their failure. This creates resentment against those who are provably more competent, and a desire to hurt them:

"Man would fain be great and sees that he is little; would fain be happy and sees that he is miserable; would fain be perfect and sees that he is full of imperfections; would fain be the object of the love and esteem of men, and sees that his faults merit only their aversion and contempt. The embarrassment wherein he finds himself produces in him the most unjust and criminal passions imaginable, for he conceives a mortal hatred against that truth which blames him and convinces him of his faults." - Pascal

Programming is one field in which no one cares about your sex or race at all. Competence is the only thing that matters. This is why it's full of spergy white and Asian men. They are objectively the most competent at it.

What if it isn't envy, but thinly veiled ethnic conquest and dispossession?

The people directing the "diversity" movement from the top do seem to want to displace white people.

The envy part is how they get the schlubs at the bottom to go along.

On the bright side, we might consider that the ceaseless chattering of the woke mob has increased the Shannon entropy of the web considerably and thereby increased its information content. It is unfortunate, however, that Shannon gave us no theory for sorting information on the basis of its usefulness to humanity.

On a related note, Frederik Morales wrote a piece on The FreePress about grade hyperinflation for black female students at Spelman. He was fired for protesting it. They were giving 100’s for getting just half the questions correct. Incompetent, ignorant and arrogant are no way to go through life. But you’ll get fired for trying to fix it.

You mistake the objectives of these organizations. They are no longer seeking genius because they are no longer seeking disruption. They have or will soon have all of the technology they need. Now they are just tightening the screws and working out the kinks. The diversity hires are as you say sinecures, they are hired specifically to exclude white men from the managerial class.

I doubt that we will soon have all the technology we will ever need because it seems to me that even breakthrough technologies become so resource intensive that they not only require efficiency updates but on a regular basis, entirely new replacement technologies. The known problems of an ever increasing population with ever decreasing resources are not well addressed let alone the unknown, but likely, catastrophic events like world wars, droughts, earthquakes, meteorites, etc.

The population issues will “solve themselves” I think. The people in charge only need enough technology to control the masses, and they have that. Once AI gets to a certain point they don’t need the masses at all, really.
